IWD 2021 ✊✊✊
Monday March 8th is International Women’s Day.
This year’s international IWD theme is #ChooseToChallenge.
DWS adapted the theme a bit at DWS and are encouraged folks to share what they are challenging and what they are celebrating this year on International Women’s Day.
We’ve got some ideas to share created by DWS staff and community members!
I choose to challenge cookie cutter, easily-consumable, white-washed ,transphobic ideas of womanhood.
&
I choose to celebrate the beautiful, rich, nuanced, kaleidoscope of identities that call themselves woman.
I choose to challenge the expectation that femmes will and should always be available to provide emotional labour to all those asking for it, regardless of compensation or any kind of reciprocity.
I’m NOT your personal therapist.
I choose to celebrate all those intrepid badass femmes taking up space in male-dominated work and life spheres. You are legitimate. You are valid. Own your craft and know that your skills and finesse are born our of your tenacity and ambition to see your vision through.
I choose to challenge feminisms that are not intersectional.
&
I choose to celebrate all the smaller victories in the fight for gender justice!
I choose to challenge my own internalized sexism.
&
I choose to celebrate all the women and other folks who kindly hold me accountable.
I choose to challenge men to do the unglamourous work of ending sexism and male violence
I choose to challenge the dangerous combination of colonialism and sexism that has led to the genocide of Indigenous women, girls, and Two Spirit folks. #MMIWG2S
I choose to challenge feminists with white skin privilege to do the work of ending racism in our movement.
I choose to challenge myself to rest when I need to.
I choose to challenge all forms of oppression. Our struggles are all linked.
I choose to challenge the gender binary.
I choose to challenge sexist steretypes.
I choose to challenge the gender pay gap.
I choose to challenge that there are ‘boys’ toys and ‘girls’ toys.
I choose to celebrate that a world without violence is possible.
I choose to celebrate my ancestors
I choose to celebrate good buds to practice consent and destroy patriarchy with
I choose to celebrate everyone who has my back.
I choose to celebrate the millions of ways to be a woman!
I choose to celebrate setting boundaries
